I first discovered Iyengar Yoga during the mid to late 1970's and was immediately impressed with the attention to precision of alignment within the postures.  I was equally impressed with a new sense of body awareness and a physical benefit that I noticed almost immediately.  My wife at the time was also involved with these yoga classes before persuading me to join in.

We moved to Cornwall (Lamorna Cove) in 1981 after Elizabeth had passed her teaching assessment.  We set up regular evening classes in the Lamorna Village Hall in February 1982.  Circumstances caused us to halt the classes at Lamorna during 1986.  I resumed teaching in Goldsithney after I had passed my teaching assessment in February of that year.  I was also teaching at other venues in Penzance and Pendeen.  I resumed the classes in Lamorna in 1999 and have been holding them on a regular basis ever since.

Iyengar Yoga is referred to as this, not because it is different from traditional yoga but because Mr BKS Iyengar (1918-2014) had made such a deep study of the art of Hatha Yoga that he revolutionised the subject with precision of anatomical movement.  HIs knowledge of the human body was so in depth that medical personnel would often seek his advice.

I feel I must also add that together with my ex-wife we formed the 'South West Iyengar Yoga Institute' and brought Mr BKS Iyengar down to Cornwall in October 1985.

Barry’s classes are at the hall every Tuesday from 5:30-7:00pm.

Sessions cost £10 or £32 if paid 4 weeks in advance.
